I agree that there are many old Armenian words that I do not understand but I feel the spirit inside the music and it is dear to me. On the other hand I appreciate Eastern (by the way Turkic sound somehow reminds me of Chinese/Mongolian music) but it rarely produces emotional feelings, maybe music that prefer is in my DNA

  • Arsen3377 says:

I am an Echmiadzin Armenian and most of Armenians I know stem from that culture. You are making a mistake by comparing fast pace changing world of today with the world that was hundreds of years ago. Please study old Armenian composers (Khristafor Kara-Murza, Komitas, Makar Yekmalian) and folk songs (search youtube for Ruben Sasunci).

btw, in case you are wandering it’s not for any commercial usages what so ever. Nor did I make any cent out of this lol. It’s just calms me down to listen en look at the pictures, and has the same effect on many others. That’s it.

  • PeopleOfAr says:

I’ve mixed the songs myself for the video. What exactly are you unsatisfied about? And why are you being so upset? it’s just an homage to our beautiful Church. I used music I could find and thought was very beautiful. I don’t see any reasons for being mad about it, but please do tell me what you think is wrong.

I have participated in the CDs used in this video; the first voice is mine. I want to make it clear that I have no relationship with the people who have prepared this, and do not appreciate the mix. I have never been asked for permission either. This look quite illegal, as the CDs are protected.

  • PeopleOfAr says:

And all of those who claim to have the original culture are hypocrites cause their cultures have been changed and influenced many times as well. The original culture is probably the cave man culture. So to me the big question is how much do people contribute to the growth beauty and enhancement of the culture or how much they are destroying it and make it ugly. As Armenian I can safely say everything we touch turns into gold. :D This song is a testimony to that.

  • PeopleOfAr says:

Also the more Turkish sounding music in this video was made by Armenians and therefore by definition Armenian to me. It doesnt matter that it might be inspired by other cultures. What matter is that we contribute to them in a great way. We do not destroy or bastardise these cultures. We enhance them.

  • PeopleOfAr says:

Why ells would we become Christian when no one did so. And why ells would we remain that way in the middle of Muslim and other empires. So I believe that is maybe the only consistent thing of our people, the need to distinguish ourselves and to create and innovate. Sure we borrow a lot from other cultures but we contribute in a significant way. Just like we have do to Maqam music etc No one can say its not a part of our culture cause it is.

  • PeopleOfAr says:

And not to mention all those Turkish borrowings we have from over 400 years living with Turks. No my friend cultural change cannot be stopped, its sad on the one hand, but on the other hand confirms the creativity and unity of all people around the world. I believe Armenians are inherently very creative people. No matter where our culture will go and what elements we will borrow, we will always continue creating new elements and drive to distinguish ourselves from the others.

  • PeopleOfAr says:

I for one cannot imagine an Armenian today not identifying himself with Christianity. You see the problem? A culture cannot be isolated or preserved for ever. The attempts of people to do so have failed and resulted in worst crimes in human history. Today we all wear jeans, listen to pop, watch tv or drive cars. Have democratic government systems and ancient juridical systems all from other cultures. Even the language changes with time. New words and terms like “computer” emerge all the time.

  • PeopleOfAr says:

I understand your concern but the problem we and any other nationalist (in a good) would encounter is when do we stop the culture in order to preserve it. Because a culture is not a static thing, it’s dynamic like a river always flowing always changing growing etc… Where do we stop and say THIS is Armenianhood. When we were apes in Africa? When Urartu was and we spoke a different language? Before Christianity? Or after? Is Christianity un-Armenian then? Cause it came to us later???

  • Arsen3377 says:

When it comes to distinguishing music by nationalities I need to first understand of my national music. My advice to you is to understand your own music so that by accident you do no to incorporate music of other nationalities into ours. That can alter our soul I do not say that one music/culture/soul is better than another but I do say that rainbow is beautiful because of its many colors. One of my responsibilities is to make sure that Armenian color is shining bright!

  • Arsen3377 says:

The music arrangement in this video is interesting. Pay attention to music to change at 1:56, music that played for the pretty much last minute before (1:04) was Eastern/Turkic. It changes again at 3:22 to Turkic and actually ends with Turkic sound. This video goes back and forth between Turkic and Armenian music/sound/soul smoothly. It like a conversation Lets take this as a sign to find peace with each other.
