Ο Κωνσταντίνος ολοκλήρωσε την ομιλία του ως εξής: «Γνωρίσατε λοιπόν τούτο: Εάν ειλικρινά υπακούσετε ό,τι σας διέταξα, ελπίζω ότι, με τη βοήθεια του Θεού, θα αποφύγουμε τη δίκαιη τιμωρία Του, που κρέμεται επάνω μας». What is Russian Martial Art? * No Belts or Uniforms * No Katas or Stances * No Formalities or Rituals * Just Real, Practical and Exciting Training History The Russian style of martial art dates back to the 10th century. Throughout the history of this huge country, Russia had to repel invaders from the north, south, east, and west. All attackers brought their distinct styles of combat and weaponry. The battles took place on different terrain, during freezing winters and sweltering summer heat alike, with the Russians often greatly outnumbered by the enemy forces. As a result of these factors, the Russian warriors acquired a style that combined strong spirit with extremely innovative and versatile tactics that were at the same time practical, deadly, and effective against any type of enemy under any circumstances. The style was natural and free while having no strict rules, rigid structure or limitations (except for moral ones). All tactics were based on instinctive reactions, individual strengths and characteristics, specifically designed for fast learning. When the Communists came to power in 1917, they suppressed all national traditions. Those practicing the centuries-old style of martial art were severely punished. However, the authorities quickly realized the viability and potency of the Russian martial art and thus reserved it for the elite units of Spetsnaz. I have taken photos of the participants and services at the recent Clergy Conference in Los Angeles CA and matched them with a setting of “Blazhen Muzh” (Blessed is the Man) from the vespers service by Sergei Rakhmaninov. I find the choice of music for this video to be an imperative call for all of us. “Blessed is the man who walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly” not only applies to us in the laity, it applies to our clergy as well. There are clergy and bishops following this command, and there are others… who are not. The former are good trees bearing sweet and wholesome fruit. The latter are bad trees bearing poisonous fruit that must be cut down and cast into the fire! May the example shown by the clergy in Los Angeles be imitated by ALL our clergy, not just some of them!

Dragoslav Pavle Aksentijevic was born in Belgrade in 1942. He graduated and acquired a Master’s Degree from the University of Belgrade Academy of Sciences and Arts. His art is devoted exclusively to the icon-painting style inspired by the old Byzantine and Serb fresco-painting. Apart from his icon and fresco-painting he is active in researching of the old spiritual music. The chants he interprets with “ison” based on “neumes” transcribes and on his own related to the living oral tradition are widely heard. Performances abroad: France, Austria, Germany, Greece, the USA, Russia, Finland, Hungary.
