Is there a difference between the Roman Catholic Bible and the Protestant Bible?

A question from a reader: Also, how many books does the Protestant Bible have? I know that the Catholic Bible has 72 books, 45 in the Old Testament and 27 in the new.

Big difference in sources.
The Catholic uses only the Septuagint Old Testament and the Latin Vulgate New Testament.
Protestant Bibles usually draw on all authorities for the best renderings.
(Actually, the Catholic and Protestent OT and NT have the same number of books. The Catholic Bible has an additional section in between. That’s where the extra books are at.)
There is only ONE Bible, and it is 66 Books.
Catholicism adds books that aren’t God’s Word, and don’t belong there. The OT Jewish people also rejected those books, called the “apocrypha”.
No NT person ever quoted the “apocrypha”. And when you read it, it sounds, seriously, like garbage.
Catholicism is not Christian. Catholicism teaches a false gospel of works that leads to eternal torment in hell (Galatians 1:6-9).
The Protestant Bible excludes the Apocrypha and only has 66 books, with 39 in the OT.
The magic spell casting rituals may be slightly different, but they are still based around the “Four Divine Pokes” idea, where you poke yourself 4 times in the order of head, chest, left shoulder, right shoulder, and then fold/hold your hands together and say what you desire, and it will occur.
Yes. It’s a bit late at night for me to be able to go through all the meaningful specifics, but, as a Roman Catholic who spent some time as in a couple of protestant churches for a while years ago, I can guarantee you that there are differences. God Bless you.
The roman catholic one is Absolute correct
The Major difference is the Catholics use a group of books that are not accepted in other versions. Known as the Apocrypha or the “Silent Tales”.
Protestant Bibles
In the 1500s, Protestant leaders decided to organize the Old Testament material according to the official canon of Judaism rather than the Septuagint. They moved the Old Testament material which was not in the Jewish canon into a separate section of the Bible called the Apocrypha. So, Protestant Bibles then included all the same material as the earlier Bible, but it was divided into two sections: the Old Testament and the Apocrypha. Protestant Bibles included the Apocrypha until the mid 1800s, and the King James Version was originally published with the Apocrypha. However, the books of the Apocrypha were considered less important, and the Apocrypha was eventually dropped from most Protestant editions. There are 39 Books in the OT and 27 in the NT which makes it 66 Books total.
Catholic and Orthodox Bibles
The Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches did not follow the Protestant revisions, and they continue to base their Old Testament on the Septuagint. The result is that these versions of the the Bible have more Old Testament books than most Protestant versions. Catholic Old Testaments include 1st and 2nd Maccabees, Baruch, Tobit, Judith, The Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach (Ecclesiasticus), additions to Esther, and the stories of Susanna and Bel and the Dragon which are included in Daniel. Orthodox Old Testaments include these plus 1st and 2nd Esdras, Prayer of Manasseh, Psalm 151 and 3rd Maccabees. This makes the Catholic Bible have 46 Books in OT. The Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox New Testaments are identical however, which is 27 Books. So there are 73 books in the Catholic bible and 66 in the Protestant bible.

Protestants removed some portions they didn’t like
Check out the Ten Commandments of both Bible’s. Compare both Bibles in Exodus 20:4; And this is for starters.
39 Books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament of the Protestant Bible. In the Book of Revelation 22:19; God says, “And if any man shall take away from the words of the Book of this Prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the Book of Life, and out of the Holy City, and from the things which are written in this Book. ( the idea is that the “words of the Prophecy” should not be changed in any manner, whether by addition or deletion). One should stick with the Protestant Bible and be safe. Also, Please read Revelation 22:18.
Catholic bibles have the same books as the original King James Version and all english translations before 1500 A.D.
The Apocrypha was removed by the publishers to sell more Bibles.
A bit.
Protestants have fully accepted each and every one of the 27 books that the Catholics selected for the New Testament over 1,500 years ago.
The difference in the Old Testaments actually goes back to the time before and during Christ’s life. At this time, there was no official Jewish canon of scripture.
The Jews in Egypt translated their choices of the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek in the second century before Christ. This translation of 46 books, called the Septuagint, had wide use in the Roman world because most Jews lived far from Palestine in Greek cities. Many of these Jews spoke only Greek.
The early Christian Church was born into this world. The Church, with its bilingual Jews and more and more Greek-speaking Gentiles, used the books of the Septuagint as its Bible. Remember the early Christians were just writing the documents what would become the New Testament.
After the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, with increasing persecution from the Romans and competition from the fledgling Christian Church, the Jewish leaders came together and declared its official canon of Scripture, eliminating seven books from the Septuagint.
The books removed were Tobit, Judith, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Wisdom (of Solomon), Sirach, and Baruch. Parts of existing books were also removed including Psalm 151 (from Psalms), parts of the Book of Esther, Susanna (from Daniel as chapter 13), and Bel and the Dragon (from Daniel as chapter 14).
The Christian Church filled with the Holy Spirit did not follow suit but kept all the books in the Septuagint. 46 + 27 = 73 Books total.
1500 years later, Protestants decided to keep the Catholic New Testament but change its Old Testament from the Catholic canon to the Jewish canon.
The books that were removed supported such things as
• Prayers for the dead (Tobit 12:12; 2 Maccabees 12:39-45)
• Purgatory (Wisdom 3:1-7)
• Intercession of saints in heaven (2 Maccabees 15:14)
• Intercession of angels (Tobit 12:12-15)
The books they dropped are sometimes called the Apocrypha.

With love in Christ.
Yes as you have said above the amount of books included in the Catholic Bible is greater than the Protestant one which has 66 against the 72 other than that i don’t think there are any major differences
Good details

Roman Catholic bibles actually have 73 books or more. As far as I know, only the following Roman Catholic bibles have more than 73:
* original Douay-Rheims (before 1750) has 3 extra
* non-Catholic imprimatur editions of the the Good News Translation
These both contain the complete English Protestant Apocrypha, which includes the Roman Catholic Apocrypha as you can see here

Jim
Good job imacatholic, well said. The first christian bible was prepared by the catholic church, plain and simple. If you want to disprove the catholic church I invite anyone to begin a mission of
trying to disprove the catholic church as the true church Jesus Chrsit started. Trace the roots of the first church started by Jesus Christ.
In your search I invite you to read the teachings of the church fathers. Does the name Polycarp mean any thing to you? If it does not I invite you to go from modern day going backwards and see where it leads you. May God almighty bring all his children into the light of Christ.
