DNA Evidence Disproves Key Mormon Doctrine
DVD available here: www.theapologeticsgroup.com For more than 170 years, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormonism) has declared The Book of Mormon to be God-breathed, inspired scriptures that provides an accurate record of history. Subtitled “Another Testament of Jesus Christ,” it recounts the story of an Israelite family who emigrated to and populated the American continents. Jesus, after his death and resurrection, is said to have visited this once great Israelite civilization existing in the Americas. The Book of Mormon teaches that these Israelites are the principal ancestors of modern-day Native Americans. New discoveries in DNA research currently allow scientists to test this historical claim. Thousands of Native Americans from more than 150 tribes have been genetically tested to determine their ancestry. Mormonism’s founding prophet, Joseph Smith, once said, “I told the brethren that The Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our relgion…” Now the same DNA evidence used in courts of law can credibly speak to the validity of The Book of Mormon, the virtual foundation of the LDS religion. The evidence answers one basic question: Are Israelites the principal ancestors of Native Americans? “DNA vs. The Book of Mormon” presents the evidence from DNA researchers, including Mormon scientists who are wrestling with the DNA dilemma that now faces Mormonism. In the end, God is faithful to once again make the truth …

In the Mormon church, what is meant by the term “special baptism”?

In the Mormon church, what is meant by the term “special baptism”?
I have heard the term used a number of times by Mormons.
I would like to hear from non-Mormons as well as from Mormons.
The intonation used with the term seemed to be relevant. It sounded like a combination of sugary, condescending, secretive and reticent.

Mitt Romney The Mormon Factor
Many Americans continue to see the Mormon faith as unfamiliar and different. Half say they know little or nothing about Mormonism, half say it is a Christian religion while a third say it is not, and roughly two-thirds believe Mormonism is “very different” from their own beliefs. There has been virtually no change in these impressions over the past four years. About half of all voters, and 60% of evangelical Republicans, know that Mitt Romney is a Mormon. The former Massachusetts governor’s religion has implications for his nomination run but not for the general election, should he be nominated as his party’s standard bearer. White evangelical Protestants — a key element of the GOP electoral base — are more inclined than the public as a whole to view Mormonism as a non-Christian faith. And this view is linked to opinions about Romney: Republicans who say Mormonism is not a Christian religion are less likely to support Romney for the GOP nomination and offer a less favorable assessment of him generally. But they seem prepared to overwhelmingly back him in a run against Obama in the general election. pewresearch.org
