Song of the Day 13–146 The Church—Under The Milky Way
In the pre-digital age, finding a song’s info was not easy. after about a
decade of hearing Under The Milky Way in parts on the radio, with no “that
was *__________* with *__________*.” i was helpless until 9 years after
it’s release when i heard it in a crowd and dropped to my knees in praise
now knowing it to be the Church.
at brunch yesterday it came on the radio as soon as i entered and kicked
off a nice string of songs. that’s a pretty nice gift.
Under The Milky Way is from the Church’s ’88 album Starfish, their best
performing record in their long career.

Sweetness! Another obscure song from the 80s Brit line! The 80s had lots of
awesome songs, some of which are in no uncertain terms are considered
‘lost’ in this day and age. But they are good just the same.

  • Felinaeus Lapinnoir says:

Sometimes when this place gets kind of empty
Sound of their breath fades with the light
I think about the loveless fascination
    Under the Milky Way tonight

Lower the curtain down on Memphis
Lower the curtain down all right
I got no time for private consultation
    Under the Milky Way tonight

Wish I knew what you were looking for
Might have known what you would find

    And it’s something quite peculiar
    Something shimmering and white
It leads you here despite your destination
    Under the Milky Way tonight

Wish I knew what you were looking for
Might have known what you would find
Wish I knew what you were looking for
Might have known what you would find

This never gets old. 1988, just broke up with a girl. I was trying to go to
college and “grow up”. She wanted to get married. I wanted an education. We
    went our seperate
ways, “wish I knew what you were looking for, might have known what you
would find” was the phrase that hit me then. Ah, young love and bad
decisions. I made it through college, she’s been married 5 times since….I
    got the better deal…lol
