I know we are all sin, we carry our own demons.
I know I am guilty of breaking all 10 Commandments, although I will sit on my throne and judge all that sit around me.
I know I am not wicked, although I know I am not pure.
I know I am only human longing to hurt no more.

Listen again, carefully, to Prof Grim. Note that religious freedom can only succeed where repression from religion is held in check. Only responsible, secular gov’t can achieve this form of guarantee of the basic human rights of freedom of conscience and belief, and it can only do so by creating and sustaining a balanced framework of freedom of and from religion. There cannot be practical freedom of religion without protection from the greatest repressor of religion – fanatical religionism.

I’m surprised he didn’t address or consider radical secular humanism as a restriction on religious freedom, both as government restrictions and social hostility, such as in Turkey or Mexico. I also found his research a bit lacking towards the lack of religious freedom in the Middle East towards Arab Christians.

Why is religion a food thing? It’s closer to a pathology than a prevention of genocide; it just doesn’t encourage going against social pressures, or thinking/acting on ones inbuilt moral empathy.
