What does the Holy Bible have to say about witholding sex in marriage?

A question from a reader: what are the scripture references and also what does it have to say about using sex to manipulate you spouse?

I’m not aware that it says anything about that, but really, celibacy is portrayed as better than marriage, so i think making love is really something to be transcended, wouldn’t you say?

I don’t know what the bible says, but I do know I am very thankful I married someone who doesn’t use an integral part of our marriage to manipulate and torment me.

At 1 Corinthians 7: 2-5 brings out the marriage due for both men and women. You should not be depriving your mate their marital due. Sex shouldn’t be a form of manipulation but of mutual agreement, however, as mates you must live in harmony with what God’s word is written above. If you love your mate and want your marriage to succeed, then you better start doing what you suppose to be doing to keep him or her. Guess what! someone out there is just waiting for you to slip.

The wife’s body belongs to the husband the husband’s body belongs to the wife. You can only keeps your body from your spouse with their permission!!!

1 Corinthians 7:3-5, “Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.”

  • LP S says:

1Cr 7:3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

1Cr 7:5 Defraud ye not one the other, except [it be] with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

You both should consent for a short time.

Paul in Ephesians 5:21-25 says: “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it..”. So you have to “submit” yourself to your husband, whatever that means.

And in 1 Corinthians 7:4 he says: “The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.” That seems to say that neither can withold sex without permission of the other.

I’m glad we consider men and women as equals now.
