I don’t believe there is much difference. Baptists can be more restrained but are often just as exhuberant.

  • solarius says:

Generally, they are both Evangelical groups that lean toward Biblical literalism. However, Pentecostals tend to have a more charismatic worship style, and place heavy emphasis upon the indwelling and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Because of this, Pentecostals are more likely to speak in tongues during their worship services. Some (but certainly not all) Pentecostal groups also observe certain rules such as forbidding the wearing of jewelry, keeping women’s hair uncut, and wearing modest dress. Where I live, sometimes it is rather easy to spot a Pentecostal women due to her unique hair and clothing style. But both Baptists and Pentecostals believe in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

I am a Baptist and I believe that once saved always saved. I don’t know a lot about Pentecostal beliefs. Maybe if you can tell me some of them I could be of more help.

  • Me! says:

solarius is correct but not all pentecostal churches make you wear dresses and not allow you to wear what you want. Most pentecostal churches let you wear what you want. I have been to both types and I find them both very judgmental and intolerant towards just about everyone who is not just like them.

  • Paddy says:

I come from both movements, been a pastor for both faiths.

They, fundementally are the same. The Penticostals, however, think they are Gods chosen because they have some extra revelation, like speaking in tongues and falling all over the place like mad people.

Both of them do not believe in the authentic and original gospel given to us by God (John 3:5), but have cut a divide (Titus 3:8-10) and also have added other man made doctrines like sanctification and divine election from the likes of Calvin into the mix.

Therefore, all they can now be called is factories producing sinners. And the Bible tells us, sinners will never be allowed into heaven (Math 7:21-23)

The true gospel is called the water and the Spirit (1 John 5:6-11).

The pentecostals belive that speaking in tongues is the way all christians should pursue. For most pentecostals speaking in tongues is a must for being taken when rapture occures, some say that the only way to be saved is if we speak in tongues.Pentecostals want to belive more in all miracles and super natural and they pray accordingly. On the other hand baptists are more reserved in all mentioned aspects.

  • Kenneth says:

Baptist believe in the Trinity (one god manifested in 3 different persons) & oneness pentecostals are apostolic by doctrine and pentecostal by experience who reject the trinity and believe in one god who revealed himself to us as the father in creation, son in redemption and the holy spirit in regeneration. Trinitarian Pentecostals are more charismatic than the baptists and are ‘pentecostals’

  • Randy says:

The main differences between baptists and pentecostals (without being judgmental about either is this: Baptists use the word “trinity” in describing the relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but they don’t necessary believe they are three distinct beings (while some do, the majority understand there is one God.) Pentecostals reject the term “Trinity” and believe in one God manifested in three ways: the Father, our Creator, the Son, our Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit, who permeates the church. The other main conflict is “once saved always saved.” While Baptists generally believe God will never let you out of his hand, Pentecostals believe that one can fall from grace, as did Satan and as did certain of the Galatians.

  • Blessed says:

Baptist are baptized in the Father, Son & the Holy Spirit, titles, where Pentecostal baptize in JESUS name, as Acts 2:38 instructs us to do. Baptist don’t practice the five fold ministry, Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, Teacher, as the Apostolic or Pentecostal church do, Baptist believe once saved always saved, Pentecostal believe we can fall from grace, that is why we repent & ask GOD to forgive us, because we all fall short & the Bible says we are to work out our on Salvation.

  • Mike says:

I was reading many of the comments and am suprised to find that most of those who commented are morons who absolutely know nothing about their religion or it’s beliefs. Both Baptist and Pentecostals believe in the “Trinity.” Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Pentecostals believe in speaking in tongues and that you can fall from grace and have to repent daily for salvation. Baptist don’t believe speaking in tongues is for today and they believe once saved always saved. Those are the main differences in the two faiths in a nutshell. Both faiths have in the past often dictated what was apropriate dress for church members to wear and how they should cut hair. It mainly depends on what time in history you are talking about. As many have said both are very judgemental and unaccepting of differing views or beliefs. I’ve been kicked out of both Baptist and Pentecostal churches for asking questions during sermons when things were unclear or just the dumbest things i’ve ever heard. The Bible contradicts itself over and over and these pulpit tards spread lies all over the place in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

It is like this we {Pentecostals} do believe in the bible FULLY..We do believe in tongues and it is written in the Bible that you should desire SPIRITUAL gifts and SPEAKING IN TONGUES is one of them!!!
You are suppose to do that and when you do get it the {HOLY GHOST} speaking in tongues is one of the signs, says so in the BIBLE..

As for the hair, cloths and make up, well God knows the heart and I really don’t think that pants and hair is what one needs to be worried about in ones beliefs, I mean it is the little foxes the spoil the den.

    Thanks
